CRUCIAL FOR PLACEMENT IN SEARCH ENGINES...

Meta tags are a crucial part of getting your webpages rated better in search engines. Many search engines now require them before they will even spider your site. Although they will improve your position in the search engines, they will not guarantee that your web site appears first. A Meta tag basically tells the search engine spider when visiting your site how you want your site described and indexed.
Now you can generate the code for your Meta Tags quickly and easily using this online generator.

Title:
The title should be a one sentence summary of your web site. A good title starts with your company’s name and then briefly describes your main service, major product, and industry. You should add your top priority keywords to the title using proper sentence form.

Author:
This section is reserved for the person who actually created the page HTML code to brag a little and include his/her own name.

Description:
The description should be a one paragraph overview of your web site. A good description takes the keywords from the title and expands on them.

Keywords:
Your keywords and keyword phrases are extremely important for helping people to find you in the search engines. The first few in your list should be your most important search terms. Try to think of the words you would use in a search engine if you were shopping for the goods and services that you provide.

Generator:
Not entirely necessary. Merely indicates the software used for generating the HTML pages, ie. "FrontPage", "Dreamweaver", etc. Leave it blank if you wish.

Copyright:
Include the year and website owner. No need to add ©, as it will be added automatically.

Designer:
For this category, "designer" is equal to "webmaster". Include the webmaster's name.

Revisit-After:
The Revisit META tag defines how often a search engine or spider should come to your website for re-indexing. This depends on how often you plan on updating your site with new material. For example: 7 Days, 14 Days, 30 Days, etc. Note: Just include a number(s), the word Days will be added automatically.

Distribution:
Does your web site focus on a your geographic area, or is it intended for worldwide use? "Global" indicates that your webpage is intended for mass distribution to everyone, "Local" means that it is intended for local distribution only, and "IU" indicates Internal Use (not intended for public distribution).

Robots:
The Robots META Tag is used by search engines as a means to indicate the level of spidering a search engine should do. Most search engines look for this META tag and will only index and/or spider the pages you want to be indexed. The most common setting is "All", meaning your entire site will appear on the search engine.
